About the Authors

Introduction

For several years, a group of friends had been playing trivia weekly at local restaurants and community associations. It was a way to bring us together regularly and have a lot of fun. We had evenings of euphoria when we would win and evenings of disappointment when we would lose. Regardless of whether we won or lost, we enjoyed each other’s company and probably learned a thing or two along the way.

Then 2020 brought with it a pandemic. All of the usual places not only halted trivia contests, but many closed down completely. On top of that, it was no longer safe for us to physically gather together. After all, most of us were having our groceries delivered so we could avoid being out in public.

In March 2020, my wife and I were lamenting the loss of our treasured trivia evenings with friends. Then I got an idea and asked, “Do you think our friends would enjoy playing by e-mail?” We polled them all and they enthusiastically replied “yes!” Because I know them all well, I knew they wouldn’t cheat by looking up the answers before responding.

I agreed to write the questions and send out three questions on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. I would also send out a “half-time” question on Wednesday and a final on Saturday.

Just like the early thinking we all had about Covid and its impact, we thought the e-mail trivia would only need to exist for a couple months at the most. Boy, were we wrong! In the end, I had written about 50 weeks of trivia questions with others taking a week here and there to give me a break.

That e-mail trivia game became the basis for this book. Whether you want to host trivia for a group of friends, lead a weekly trivia contest at a local pub, or test your own knowledge, you hold in your hands enough trivia questions to last for a year…if not longer.

Some of the questions are easy, some are difficult. As with any trivia, the best teams will be the ones that have a broad base of knowledge and a good age range.

Have fun!

William Wildey
