This is the seventh chronology on terrorism written by Mickolus and his colleagues. Starting in 1968, he has chronicled the topic extensively and certainly has established himself as the source for information on terrorism activities. The first two volumes are arranged chronologically, with a section of volume 2 adding updates from 1935 to 2001, years that were initially covered in volumes such as Terrorism, 1996-2001: A Chronology (2002).
Seemingly minor incidents receive shorter though thorough coverage, while well-known events are given their due. A brief one-paragraph entry for April 13, 2003, describes a shooting in a Rio de Janeiro that killed no one; a 16-page entry on the September 3, 2004, Chechen-led massacre at the Beslan Elementary School in northern Ossetia contains a detailed list of every individual killed in the attack. The complete list of events seems to leave no region of the world uncovered. There is no commentary, just a simple reporting of the facts. The entries from 2004 all resemble U.S. newscasts, with incidents from Iraq far outpacing terrorism in the rest of the world.
The third volume is a 300-plus page bibliography of terrorism covering 1969-2004. It is divided into regions of the world, special topics such as hijacking or economic terrorism, and various responses to terrorism as well as a listing of terrorism in fiction and a bibliography of terrorism bibliographies. A short list of relevant Web sites is also provided. The index allows readers to trace terror incidents in particular countries. There are also indexes that cover the topic by name and subject.
The cost may be more than most libraries can afford for a chronology, but librarians familiar with Mickolus’ previous works will know the thorough coverage and will want to continue that coverage by purchasing this set. Steve Stratton

The series started in 1974 and now, unfortunately for the world and its people, fills almost a shelf with its chronicle of evil deeds….The newest volumes are arranged in chronological order, as is to be expected. They include both new items for 2002-04 and updates with more details on events as early as 1935 that were initially covered in the earlier tomes. The first two volumes (463 pages) contain the two chronologies.
